The Story:

Barker & Scott’s approach to designing systems, meeting operational needs, and working with my team was invaluable during our post-database conversion period. They bring with them a wide network of resources to draw upon. We continue to turn to them, with the utmost confidence, to help us redesign our business processes and to manage key projects. In order to increase support for its mission, the organization made the decision to significantly expand its major gifts fundraising. In order to achieve its aggressive growth goals, the Society made focused investments in people, process, and technology.

The Solution: Business Process Analysis and Alignment

The Society made multiple strategic hires of Major Gifts Officers and hired Barker & Scott to address its process and technology needs. Barker & Scott performed a Major Gifts Systems Gap Analysis which included short-term and long-term recommendations for addressing gaps in functionality and improving the effectiveness of the Society’s fundraising systems overall. The scope of recommendations included: options for optimizing or replacing current systems, specific business process improvements, and strategies for improved organizational alignment between and among the national office and chapters. On the process front, Barker & Scott worked closely with a team of national office and chapter staff to define a best practice, organization-wide approach to “moves management” that would a) enable Major Gifts Officers to function more effectively, b) enable staff throughout the organization to work in a collaborative environment, and c) build stronger and more long-lasting relationships with some of the Society’s most valuable constituents.

The Impact

Upon completion of the moves management business model, Barker & Scott helped the organization prioritize its business requirements in order to select and implement a new major gifts fundraising system.
